Welcome! I'm so glad you're here!
Becoming a mom, whether your first baby or your fourth, can be such an overwhelming transition. We spend so much time preparing! We're decorating, organizing, packing hospital bags, taking birthing classes, or meeting with doulas. One of the things that many women forget to plan for is breastfeeding. It's a natural process, so we think that means it'll come naturally and for some women, it does. For others, it quickly becomes stressful and even painful.
I have always been passionate about my desire to breastfeed, but as I began preparing for my first baby I found myself feeling discouraged and even frightened by my friends' stories of horrific breastfeeding complications. I kept thinking 'there has to be a better way!' Then, I found The Thompson Method, a gentle, evidence-based approach to breastfeeding.
I was out of work because of COVID, so I spent much of my time going through the online program. I felt so knowledgable and empowered! I learned everything I needed to know to feel confident about breastfeeding, but I also learned about how labor and birth impact the early breastfeeding experience. I went into my next appointment with this new found knowledge and was able to advocate for the labor and delivery I desired.
When my baby arrived, I knew exactly what to do and what complications to look out for. We faced engorgement early on, but I knew what to do. My son and I had a beautiful breastfeeding journey. I went on to breastfeed my daughter a few years later and with a fine-tuning session in the first four weeks, we went on to have another great breastfeeding experience. I believe that this was only possible because of the preparation and support I had with The Thompson Method. I had a growing passion for breastfeeding and a yearning to share my knowledge with other mamas. That is why I became a Certified Thompson Method Breastfeeding Educator.
